PT Freeport Indonesia - PTFI is the largest copper and gold mining company in Indonesia. PT Freeport Indonesia is a key subsidiary of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. (FCX), a global mining leader company from Phoenix, Arizona United States. In Indonesia, Freeport started its exploration activities in 1967. PTFI has conducted its exploration in 2 areas in Tembaga Pura Mimika District Papua Province, include Erstberg mine (since 1967) and the Grasberg mine (since 1988). The Grasberg minerals district is the largest cooper and gold mine in the world in terms of recoverable reserves.
